Were the three best friends.....Tela, Honduras

"The beach, where doing absolutely nothing is doing something"

Friday after taking a quick photo with one of my very favorite girls Jency, (lives with Alison at the Eternal Family Project) Matt, Kylie and I were beach bound for the weekend.... We hired a taxi to drop us off in the town of El Progresso. After buying a necessary chunky chocolate chip cookie (for me) at Dunkin Donuts and Ice-cream for Kylie at Baskin Robins we stood on the side of the road attempting to flag down a bus to take us further on down the highway an hour and half to Tela. Tela is a beach town that sits right on the Caribbean  We have been to this place twice last fall and could not wait to get there......

We got a bus and the next thing you know we were already on the beach, wine and beer in hand watching the sunset. The sunset did not disappoint either......Leaving school at 2 pm and seeing the sunset by 5:30 pm... not bad if you ask me. We stayed at the Caribbean Coral Inn, a Bed in Breakfast right on the water. As a guest you are staying in cabins on the beach that are apart of the families home as well. All food is cooked by the wife and she makes everything fresh ready to order. So good...

Our weekend top moments:
  • Dinner served fresh made to order..... and the very best garlicky sauce for salad with garlic bread.
  • Saturday Morning the three of us did yoga by the sea, followed by being in the ocean all afternoon with nothing to do.
  • Eating Pizza in Tela at the beach Saturday Night. Stuffed crust and breadsticks... it has been far too long pizza, far too long......
  • Saturday night getting in bed before 8:30 pm. All three of us. Full, sunburnt and happy. Headlamps were on and we were reading our books.
  • Sunday morning breakfast, followed by more yoga on a deck barely big enough for the three of us. Which then led to more swimming in the ocean....
  • Sunday on our way home we stopped in San Pedro bus station stocking up on things we have not been able to buy in a quite some time, chips, whole wheat pasta for matt, grapes, granola bars, chocolate.....
  • Should not forget when Matt saved the day by grabbing the wheel to avoid hitting a bunch of rocks that were blocking construction being done..... while our taxi driver was elsewhere.....
Here are some pictures.... Enjoy

Smiling because it is Friday
Picture taken out of the bus, no filter, bluest sky and greenest landscape.

Sunsetting...

Morning... Before our yoga session.

So sunny and so beautiful

Being goofy....

This is a small collection of nearly 20 or so pictures I have of us three that night on the beach...

Kylie and I acting natural

Matts thoughts on being at the beach

As you can tell we nearly had the entire beach to ourselves the whole weekend with the exception of a few locals in the afternoon.

Acting natural again.

Now I am back at school, just six weeks to go and Honduras is finished... for this chapter at least. It was a great weekend, much needed R and R with my two favorite born and raised Ohioans (Buckeyes/irish)

Bond. James Bond.

Bus ride from hell in the rain. James Bond. Popcorn. The mall. The girls. Our Saturday in a nutshell.

This morning we woke to the sound of rain that continues even to this moment and we made the decision to grab a bus to San Pedro Sula to see the new James Bond movie. One thing is for sure, no matter where you go to a movie around the world it is always cold in the theatre.  (hello Air Conditioning) Just the girls made the trip and we gladly purchased fountain drinks, i bought popcorn and we agreed it did not feel like we were in Honduras anymore. The movie theatre was Cinemark and was just like the Cinemark theaters in the states. (no sour patch kids though... or hot tamales) After the movie we all parted ways to shop at the mall. I wanted to splurge on something new for my birthday but was unsuccessful. Buying nice clothes seems so foolish when I think about where I spend my time, our washer that doesn't work and the fact that we don't really "go out". So instead I settled for a nail file, face wash, eyeliner and a loofah. (really went crazy let me tell you)

Our weekend began Thursday... After confirming for the umpteenth time that the rain was not going to end, we planned for a memorable evening in our house, we pooled what was remaining of our pay for the month to buy two bottles of wine and candles. The wine selection is scarce in our town so I decided to try a new kind. I should have known when the name of the bottle is "Night Train" that it was going to be rough but when "Night Train" is the only cheap red wine available you drink it. Faye later confirmed it was in fact more like a crappy sherry wine. We drank and listened to cheesy wedding songs. We brainstormed perfect first dance songs for hypothetical husbands we would marry. We ate bowls of stove top popcorn...The four of us girls laughed and sang the best of the best love songs....(this list below is a very very small sample of what was a whole evening of you tubing songs)

The Power of Love, Celine Dion
Lets get it On, Marvin Gaye
At Last Etta James
Have I told you Lately that I love you, Rod Stewart
More than Words, Extreme

Friday evening was spent at the D and D talking, eating, having the best chocolate cake you can get your hands on in this country.... Lotte and Ramone (resident employees at the D and D) gave some recommendations for our next week Visa renew trip in Guatemala. We are getting excited. Friday I woke up in the night to the cool air. We have reached winter in this country and although this would pass as a very mild fall day in Kentucky, our tropical adjusted bodies are cold. As well, Thomas and Philip are away for the weekend so Matt spent his Friday with the girls. (girl number 5)

I will post more about the parade that took place Friday through our town. My kids looked so cute all dressed up! For now here are a few images from around our house recently...

We have eaten all of our oranges that hang low so Thomas was kind enough to climb on top of the water tank and throw some down.

Why not then get on our roof. I asked him to fix the leak while he was at it :)

Who else would think it is a great idea to ride a bike through our house? Matt. I wish I captured when he went through Molly and Alison's room. The door was only slightly opened so he drove straight into the door so it would swing open for him to ride through.

Happy Rainy Saturday yall..

Saturday Perfection

Saturday perfection was in full affect today. I woke with a warm cup of coffee, sunny weather, Spanish being spoke outside my window, the misty haze on the Mountains and my roommates coming home from their run. We had a full evening spent eating dinner prepared by Kate and Philip. We had Thai stir fry, and a mango/apricot puree dessert and drank wine in a coffee cup. We laughed and played charades till late in the evening. Jason from the D and D joined us and is now in rotation to cook with us. (family dinner once a week, two people cook and prepare the whole meal). Our next family meal is Wednesday evening for Faye's birthday (Allison from South Africa and Matt from Ohio). We moved up the day because we are heading to the beach on Friday for the weekend.

This morning I drank coffee, ate a fresh pineapple and loaded the washer with my towels and sheets. I decided to rearrange my room a bit and mop the floor. The smell of clean sheets and clean floor made my morning. I tided my room before Matt and Thomas came over for hot yoga in my room. I have subscribed to a podcast of yoga from a studio in California and it has been the best treat here. In sweat and relaxation the three of us completed an hour long session on our mats. The boys are new yogis and I am getting them hooked. It was such a good one today.

After yoga I cooked fresh vegetables in coconut milk for lunch. I cleaned up our porch, cleaned my bathroom, and went grocery shopping for a few things. This Saturday was full of some of my very favorite things. (I am a big Dork I know). Cleaning, listening to music, coffee, and yoga are all the top of my list.

The icing on the cake of today was our hot water was installed. As Faye so eloquently said showering was not a chore before, it was a dreadful experience (British accent). I stood in our warm shower, shaved my legs without the hair growing back and internally smiled at the very simplest joy of warm water. After my shower of heaven, Faye and I gave ourselves a facial with Oatmeal, Egg white, and lemon. (googled this concoction from online). My face dried up and felt clean and good. I wish I had a photo, Philip cut up cucumbers for us and we sat with lumpy porridge on our face at our kitchen table. I bought a simple pedicure kit at the grocery store and soaked my feet as well. It was a mini spa for Kristina (honduran style). (PS my pedicure must have been a good one because the biggest cockroach just crawled next to my foot, gross).

Matt sat at our kitchen table yelling at the Internet with anticipation of the Notre Dame game. Matt has decided he will be moving in with the girls (not really) but in the least offensive way we call him a girl and we would love to have him as our new roommates  Faye and Molly give him crap for sitting and watching American Futbol (insert British accent) all day, but one thing is for sure, he loves his fighting Irish and now the British girls check the score and cheer when there is a touchdown.

I am exhausted, tired in the best way and in other news my blog got a facelift.

May you find your perfect day, doing and delighting in what makes your heart smile. I am full of goodness and happy. Cheers from Honduras.
